Choice Engineering Consultants recently attended the 2020 Florida-Puerto Rico ITE Winter Workshop at the Florida Turnpike Enterprise Headquarters on February 28, 2020. The topic of the workshop was on Active Arterial Management and Performance Measures Management & Reporting. As explained in the workshop, Active Arterial Management plays a part in the bigger picture of Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) and focuses on traffic conditions along arterials (streets). The process for Active Arterial Management is in four steps: (1) monitoring traffic conditions; (2) identify what is causing issues such as delay; (3) choose an appropriate countermeasure to improve the traffic conditions; and (4) implement this countermeasure. During the workshop, we witnessed how other Counties within the State of Florida, including some of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Offices, were implementing active arterial management strategies that are either in progress or have already been implemented in their areas. Thanks to Peter J. Yauch, the Florida Turnpike Enterprise Headquarters, and all the speakers for putting together a great workshop!
