Choice Engineering Consultant recently attended the FSUTMS Comprehensive Modeling Workshop in FDOT District One Southwest Area Office, February 17-21, 2020. The five-day modeling workshop covered the Florida Standard Model basics including an in-depth look at the traditional four-step modeling process: 1-trip generation (How many trips?), 2-trip distribution (Where do the trips go?), 3-mode choice (Which mode of travel?), and 4-trip assignment (What route?). The interactive workshop combined theory-based learning with practical guided exercises. Special thanks to the instructors Sheldon Harrison with Cambridge Systematics, Ahmed Mohideen with Bentley (formerly Citilabs, Inc.) and Thomas Hill with FDOT for giving generously of their time and talents. I enjoyed spending time with my fellow modelers Gregory Gabriel with PB TPA, Cristopher Simpron with FDOT D-1, Wafa Mahmoud with Sarasota County, Justin Cooner with Chindalur Traffic Solutions, Inc., and Devon Long and Chris with DPA among others. Together, we completed all 52 exercises! It was great meeting and collaborating with some of the local and regional staff within the transportation planning/modeling community.
